Mountain lion being stereotyped
Signal Staff
The Signal
The story "Lion, bear seen near home" in the May 7 issue of The Signal is illustrated with a quite large (larger, in fact, than the text) photo of a snarling, savage-looking mountain lion, helpfully identified (in case the reader doesn't know what a mountain lion looks like) and, we are told, "like the one ... seen (in) Santa Clarita."
The Signal does a disservice to both the reader and the lion.
We know what mountain lions look like; we should not be assaulted with a stereotypical portrayal of a beautiful animal that almost never attacks humans!
