Media ignores state crisis

It is refreshing that we are able to read more about Sacramento in The Signal.

Perhaps people are starting to pay attention to the oncoming crisis which could start a demand for fixing the mess that we are in.

Our dysfunctional state government is almost comical — single-issue representatives, a governor who has separated himself from everybody, a Legislature that has caused massive deficits even in the boom years and propositions that are insults to any voter’s intelligence.

The result is that the education of our children, the most important duty of the state, will likely suffer the most.

Teachers will continue to be fired, services to the poor will be cut again and even the federal bailout will not solve our current budget problems.

It has been difficult for voters to get information on our state’s operation as the media has a national focus and Sacramento is ignored. And when we read about our local representatives it is usually about new projects which spend even more.

It’s time for the voters to wake up.
