Hart boys volleyball’s run into the CIF-Southern Section Division II playoffs ended at Westlake Friday.

Westlake swept the young Indians 3-0 (25-9, 25-7, 25-20), utilizing its superior size to establish early dominance against the Foothill League fourth-place finisher.

“We only had one varsity player return from last year’s team so I think our guys were a little jittery,” said Hart head coach Mary Krisan. “I think just seeing how big Westlake is was intimidating. We knew it was going to be a tough match, and they brought it from the beginning.”

With six starters over 6-feet tall, Westlake controlled the net.

The Warriors jumped out to a fast start, and took the first two games with ease, but Hart stayed tough and hung in during the third frame.

“I think we should be proud of how we played in the third game,” Krisan said. “We lost those first two, and I told the team not to get discouraged. I think they did a great job of playing their game in the end.”

Westlake maintained control in the final game, but Hart proved that it wasn’t going to quit, pushing the Warriors after rough start on the road.

The 2009 season may be over for Hart, but its young nucleus is already thinking about next year.

“What’s great about this group is that once this game was over, they were already talking about what we can do to make next year better,” Krisan said. “We managed to pull together tonight, and this was really a team effort. Everybody contributed.”
