O'Brien Marketing scored a goal this month when it became the exclusive media buying agency for Chivas USA of Major League Soccer.

The agreement allows O'Brien Marketing to handle all the media buying strategies, negotiations and execution for the 2007 Western Conference Champions with English and Hispanic media outlets.

C. Patrick O'Brien, owner of the Valencia marketing firm, considers the agreement to be a major accomplishment, especially for a local business.

O'Brien Marketing officially opened its office on Avenue Stanford in the beginning of February. Until then, O'Brien said he worked from his home office in Stevenson Ranch.

Before launching his own firm, O'Brien served as senior vice president for AEG/Envision and was director of sports advertising sales at Los Angeles radio station KFWB-AM 980.

O'Brien is credited with securing corporate sponsors for Staples Center and The Home Depot Center. He also coordinated sponsorship of the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Kings, LA Avengers of the Arena Football League and AEG's Major League Soccer teams.

O'Brien was named Major League Soccer's executive of the year five times in nine years during his time at AEG.

While O'Brien is familiar with all aspects of sports, he views his 16 years of experience with soccer as a reason for the contract with Chivas.
