If you’ve ever found yourself days-deep and dollars-down into a home improvement project, only to discover that you overlooked something very important and you NOW have to call in an expert to bail you out — then you can appreciate those unusual souls who get help from experts BEFORE they dive in. It’s sort of like reading the math chapter before you attempt the problems at the end of the chapter — a bit of a no-brainer.

This weekend you have the opportunity to move to the head of the home-improvement class by visiting with experts on the subject at the Saugus Speedway. Continuing Saturday and Sunday, the Saugus Speedway presents its 13th annual Home & Garden Show, which features hundreds of home- and garden-improvement ideas. It will showcase a wide array of exhibitors and “Home Show” specials, geared to the SCV community.

Landscapers and contractors specializing in pools and spas, hardscape, kitchen and bath remodels and room remodels will be on hand to show you how to realize your dream-home dreams. Awnings, retractable screens and water-treatment devices will be included and insurance, mortgage and real estate experts will be available to answer your questions. Experts from Camping World of Valencia also will be on hand and there will be RVs and campers for sale.

“This is the Saugus Speedway’s way to bring the community together with local experts and SCV contractors,” said Terri Burbank, general manager of the Saugus Speedway and Swapmeet. “We love doing it. It serves a great purpose. Very rarely do you get a chance to meet the (home improvement) experts face-to-face.”

In addition to the offerings listed above, there will be experts on hand to discuss satellite TV systems, alarm systems, pest control, flooring, garage doors, computer repair, safes, artificial turf, whole-house fans, painting, garage overhead storage, home design and architecture, cabinets, air conditioning and nursery plants.

Saugus Speedway will also host its popular Swap Meet (open air market) during the shows this weekend —  complete with live entertainment and vendors. Live music will be provided by Kyle Culkin and his blues band Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and by Back Pages, a local classic rock band, on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities will include inflatable slides and bungee jumping.

“It’s a full weekend of activity here,” Burbank said.

The Home and Garden Show will be held on the Speedway’s race track (under two large tents) 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is only $1.50 and the price covers both the Swap Meet and the Home Show.
