Local women looking for a job or trying to build a successful career will find a timely source of information at the fifth of a series of LifeForward workshops sponsored by Zonta Club of the Santa Clarita Valley.

The final workshop in the series, Job Search and Career-Building Skills, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. next Saturday, May 16, in the Community Room at Valencia Library.

Presenters are Anne-Marie Dieters, a career advisor at College of the Canyons, and Michele Lobl, M.A., of Santa Clarita WorkSource. The free LifeForward workshops are designed to provide resources for local women who are currently underserved by community resources.

Dieters, who has been conducting career related workshops for COC as well as for the WorkSource Center, will introduce such useful topics as creating a successful resume, marketing oneself on paper, and staying organized during the job search.

Dieters holds a master's degree in counseling and is now creating a workshop for COC students who are seeking a job with basic skills.

Lobl will help workshop participants assess their transferable skills, assess the skills they bring to a job, see the employment picture from an employer's standpoint, and focus the job search.

"This workshop will be of particular value to local women whose livelihood has been affected by the economic crisis and who need some guidance with getting started on the job search," explained DeAnne Joy, chair of the Zonta LifeForward workshop committee. "It will also help women who are trying to decide which direction to go in their next career, and how to make that step."

Theme of the free workshop series is "Believe in your unlimited power and potential, Build the skills necessary to success, and be the powerful woman you are meant to be." The current workshop meets that goal by showing women how to take control of their own careers and livelihoods.

No childcare is available during the workshop programs.
