Castaic Lake Water Agency, 27234 Bouquet Canyon Road (above Central Park)
(Note: The CLWA Open House runs concurrently with the Smart Gardening Workshop.) The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works Environmental Programs Division sponsors the Smart Gardening Program. Smart Gardening Workshops cover all of the Smart Gardening program components in a presentation of approximately two hours in length. Each component provides residents with tools and techniques necessary to reuse readily available resources. Residents not only receive step by step instructions on how to compost, but are also educated on the benefits and biology of compost.

The workshops provide hands-on teaching on composting, worm composting, grass recycling, water-wise gardening and fire-wise gardening. No reservations are necessary, unless otherwise stated. In its continued effort to increase composting participation, the County of Los Angeles has worked with various composting bin vendors to provide bins at affordable prices to all Los Angeles County residents. Currently, at most of the workshops, interested residents can purchase a backyard composting bin and a worm composting bin at discounted prices.

In addition to workshops at 11 Demonstration Centers, and advertising as part of the promotional effort, the Smart Gardening program participates in local and regional events. These include Bay Days, the Long Beach Home Show, the Los Angeles County Fair and many others.

The program also works closely with the 88 cities in Los Angeles County to provide services to residents who do not live near a center or in cities that do not have a similar program.
