Two Canyon Country men were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of cultivating marijuana and possession of marijuana for sale in their home, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies assisted the California Franchise Tax Board in executing a search warrant unrelated to the marijuana busts in the 17000 block of Crest Heights Drive, Lt. Mark Hershey said.

When deputies searched two bedrooms in the home, they found 86 marijuana plants, Lt. Brenda Cambra said. Of the 86 plants, 20 were mature plants ready for sale. Another 66 immature plants were still growing, she said.

The male suspects, Karen Gasparian and Beau Smith, both 28, allegedly had more than $1,000 in cash and a scale for weighing the drugs, Cambra said.

Smith and Gasparian were arrested and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on suspicion of felony cultivation of marijuana and felony possession of marijuana for sale, Cambra said.

Gasparian and Smith are being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. No court date has been set, Cambra said.
