Homicide detectives investigating the death of a man found with his throat slit in a Valencia business last month are “leaning more toward suicide,” rather than murder, in the case, a Homicide Bureau spokesman said Wednesday.

Shortly after the body of a 41-year-old man was found Aug. 14 inside the bathroom of a business in the 24900 block of Avenue Kearny in the Valencia Industrial Center, detectives said they would wait for the results of an autopsy before deciding if the death was a suicide or not.

The body was autopsied last weekend, said Coroner’s Department spokesman Lt. Fred Corral. Asked if department investigators determined a cause or manner of death, Corral said: “The case has been deferred.”

All investigators involved in the case — those from both homicide and the Coroner’s Department — are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to point them in a clear direction.

Although the victim has been identified, his name hasn’t been released because investigators have yet to make contact with his family, who live in Mexico, Corral said.
