A 3-year-old boy was airlifted to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Sunday evening after falling into a pool in Valencia, according to a sergeant at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The young boy was rescued from the water by his uncle, just as he had begun to stop struggling, said Sgt. Brian Allen of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies responded to the 22500 block of Breakwater Way in Valencia after reports of a child unconscious and cleared a landing zone at Bridgeport Park for a Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter.

“When the paramedics responded he was conscious and breathing,” Sgt. Allen said, adding that the boy had reportedly coughed up water and was taken to Children’s Hospital to be evaluated.

Allen said CPR had not been administered.

Los Angeles County Fire Dispatch Supervisor Robert Diaz confirmed that the helicopter carrying the boy landed at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles just after 8:40 p.m. but could not comment on the child's condition.

Diaz did say the orignal call had been to reports of a child drowning.
