Redmond O'Neal, son of actors Ryan O'Neal and Farrah Fawcett, pleaded not guilty to felony drug possession during his arraignment in Santa Clarita Superior Court on Wednesday, according to a district attorney spokeswoman.

O'Neal was in court to answer charges stemming from his April 5 arrest in the parking lot of Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic. He told deputies he was in possession of heroin during a routine security check, said Steve Whitmore, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman.

O'Neal is due back in Santa Clarita for a preliminary hearing setting May 22. He is being held without bail, said Shiara Davila, Los Angeles County District Attorney spokeswoman.

The April 5 arrest was the latest round of trouble for O'Neal. He was arrested in October 2008 for felony drug possession, felony possession of an opium pipe, misdemeanor possession of an opium pipe and unlawful use of tear gas, Davila said. O'Neal was also arrested in February 2008 for two counts of drug possession and driving under the influence, she said.

The repeat run-ins with the law led Judge Nancy Newman to determine O'Neal violated his probation terms on April 17. He is due in court today for sentencing on the probation violation and faces up to three years in state prison, said Jane Robison, D.A. spokeswoman.
