Billboard ballot arguments posted on city site

The ballot arguments for and against a much-discussed measure on the November ballot involving digital billboards in Santa Clarita have been posted on the city’s website.

Both statements largely rehash the same talking points that have been raised by those opposed to and in favor of the billboard deal over the past several months.

The statement in favor of the ordinance touts the financial benefits, stating the city would receive an estimated “$500,000 to $1 million” in annual revenue should the measure be approved.

The statement of opposition, however, blasts it as a “shameful backroom deal” and a “symbol for the abuse and arrogance of an insulated government.”

The measure asks whether to approve an ordinance authorizing a development agreement between the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the city of Santa Clarita that would give Metro the right to construct three, double-sided digital billboards on city-owned property off Highway 14 and Interstate 5 in exchange for removing 62 billboard structures along the Metro right-of-way inside city limits.
