A man was critically injured and taken to the hospital with second- and third-degree burns Tuesday after fire broke out in a boat parked at a Canyon Country residence, spreading to a travel trailer parked next to it.

Two other people were also hurt in the fire but were not taken to the hospital, Fire Department Inspector Keith Mora said.

The fire broke out shortly before 11:15 a.m. in the driveway of a home on the 18500 block of Delight Street east of Bainbury Street, he said.

One man, believed to be in his 50s, suffered second- and third-degree burns to 60 to 70 percent of his body and was taken by ambulance to the hospital, said Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Tolbert.

The fire was extinguished by 11:35 a.m., Mora said. It destroyed the boat, the trailer parked next to it and also blackened part of a hillside next to the house, Tolbert said.

The identity of the burn victim was not released.

Investigators suspect the fire may have been started by someone cleaning with a flammable liquid, said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
