A pair of crashes blocked some northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 14 near Escondido Canyon Road for more than an hour Friday, the California Highway Patrol repoprted.

A disabled car on the northbound side of the freeway may have triggered the first collision, which occurred at about 12:11 p.m., the CHP said.

The disabled car was hit from behind by another vehicle. Two people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries suffered in that crash, officials said.

Three lanes of the northbound 14 freeway were shut down to remove the vehicles, the CHP said.

A short time later, at about 12:28 p.m., a second crash occurred on the southbound lanes of the 14, possibly caused by cars slowing or stopping to see the collision on the northbound lanes, officials said.

No injuries were reported in that crash, but two lanes of the southbound 14 were closed for cleanup, the CHP said.
All of the vehicles were removed and the freeway was reopened at 1:38 p.m., the CHP said.
