Valencia High baseball coach remains on leave as new semester approaches

Valencia High School teacher and head baseball coach Jared Snyder will not be among those returning to school when it re-opens next week, said a spokeswoman for the William S. Hart Union High School District.

“Jared Snyder continues on administrative leave,” Gail Pinsker said Thursday. She said he is still being paid by the district.

“The concerns discussed last semester are still under review by the district,” she said. The “concerns” were not explained.

“Mr. Snyder is listed as a teacher on student class schedules; however, a substitute teacher will be handling his classes as we begin the new school year on Aug. 14th,” Pinsker said.

All of the district’s coaches are on annual contracts, she said.

Snyder began his leave of absence in May, leaving many parents with questions about the money raised by the baseball team’s booster club. Concerns voiced by parents in May dealt primarily with issues of transparency and accountability — booster club fundraising bank account statements not being readily available to parents.

District officials announced at the time that they were developing fundraising guidelines for booster clubs.

“The district has been reviewing these different mechanisms and is working to develop a preferred approach that allows for best practices, including checks and balances and oversight,” Pinsker said in a prepared statement in May.

In the meantime, Michael Killinger remains head varsity baseball coach for the 2014-15 season.

Killinger has been part of the Valencia High School baseball program since 1999, most recently as interim head coach and previously as assistant varsity coach, according to a news release issued by the District in May.

Killinger came to Valencia High School as a science teacher in 1999 with a teaching credential from Central Washington University. He continues to teach science courses, primarily biology.
