The Santa Clarita Stars Showteam received the highest honor of Top Scoring Overall Routine during the STARS West Regional Dance competition April 17 and 18 at Valencia High School.

More than 250 dancers from the state, and 92 dancers from the Santa Clarita Valley, took part in the weekend contest.

The show team performed a lyrical dance titled, "Burgundy Shoes," depicting The Great Depression era with seven dancers ages 10-12 years old. The girls were chosen out of 83 routines for this award.

The showteam also received a Judges Specialty Award for Most Entertaining Performance of "Don't Stop the Music," which consisted of 60 dancers from the ages of 7-18 years old. Seventeen of these dancers are also members of local high-school dance teams.

Additionally, the Santa Clarita STARS pre-team and show team earned the top scoring routine in four out of seven different age groups.

The solo competition was held Friday night and 14 Santa Clarita STARS dancers received the top title of "Dance Champion" out of 34 age divisions.

The team looks forward to its upcoming performances at local high school dance shows and at the Showstoppers competition in May held in Anaheim and the STARS Grand National Competition held in Las Vegas in June.
