Detectives made their latest drug pinch easily Wednesday when the drug bust came to them for a change.

A pair of teens allegedly looking for a place to smoke weed chose a spot on Citrus Street in Valencia that turned out to be offices that belong to local sheriff’s detectives.

Shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday, when a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detective returned to his office from a morning in court he found the pair lighting up their marijuana, according to Deputy Josh Dubin.

“One of our detectives was walking back to his office from court when he saw two minors, both children, under 18, sitting against the detective office when they pulled out some marijuana,” he said.

“They were leaning against the glass door of the office and they were just started to smoke it when the detective stopped them,” he said.

Detectives working in the building adjacent to the main sheriff’s station on Magic Mountain Parkway poured from their offices when the pair was confronted, Dubin said.

Only one of the two juveniles, aged 17, was handed a citation to appear in court for possession of marijuana, he added.

The detective who handed out the citation works for the station’s COBRA unit. COBRA stands for the Career Offenders, Burglary, Robbery and Apprehension.

“Ironically, it is the COBRA team that works with juveniles and gang-related crime,” Dubin said, adding that the boy cited on suspicion of possessing marijuana is expected to go to court.
