Immigration protest planned Saturday in Valencia

Opponents of the recent influx of migrant children across the nation’s southern border have scheduled a two-day national protest, and the Santa Clarita Valley will be one of the sites where they plan to demonstrate.

Protests are scheduled Friday and Saturday across the country as part of the National Day of Protesting Against Immigration Reform, Amnesty and Border Surge.

On Saturday organizers plan a demonstration in Valencia on the Valencia Boulevard overpass over Interstate 5. The demonstration is expected to run from 9 a.m. to noon.

The topic has been a divisive one across the country. On July 1 protesters turned back buses bound for Murrietta, Calif., to process illegal immigrants there.

Prospects for a political solution faded Thursday as Washinton, D.C., lawmakers traded accusations rather than solutions, raising chances that Congress will head out for its summer recess without doing anything about the tens of thousands of migrant children streaming into South Texas.
