City Hall planning to post updated election results

City officials will be celebrating the City Council election night on Tuesday with a live show from City Hall.

City Manager Ken Pulskamp and spokeswoman Gail Ortiz will be announcing results as numbers roll in from the city's 30 precincts and will post the results on the city's Web site.

"We will be posting live election results throughout the night as they get them," Ortiz said.

The City Clerk's office has been verifying the ballots against the records from original voter registration cards on file with the county. On Tuesday, the staff will tally the ballots along with those cast at the polls.

The staff will first count the absentee ballots and then count the ballots by precincts as the numbers come in to determine the unofficial results. Ballots that still need verification, including vote-by-mail ballots handed in on Tuesday, will later be added to constitute the official results. Those numbers must be approved at the April 22 council meeting to be considered official.

Pulskamp and Ortiz will begin interviewing the various city department heads, including the heads of the sheriff's and fire departments.
