A 22-year-old man arrested in connection with a burglary at a store that sells Airsoft guns was also arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly shooting a man with such a gun earlier the same night, according to sheriff and court records.

Shortly after midnight on June 26, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a burglar alarm at the Airsoft & Hobby World store on Bouquet Canyon Road, near Newhall Ranch Road, in Saugus, according to deputies.

“We arrived at the location and saw the glass of the front door was smashed,” one of the responding deputy wrote in his report.

“Santa Clarita units entered the location to check if there were any suspects inside,” he said. “No suspects were found inside the location.”

Deputies did, however, spot a white Ford Explorer wanted in connection with an assault reported earlier the same night, before midnight on June 25.

When they stopped the vehicle, they spotted Airsoft guns in the backseat and asked the driver about them, they wrote in their report.
At least 15 Airsoft items believed stolen were recovered from the suspect’s car, deputies said, including: four semi-automatic rifles; a rifle with a scope; a semi-automatic handgun; several BB pellets and an orange-tipped gun with a silencer.

Airsoft guns are replica firearms that fire plastic pellets.

The suspect told deputies how he broke into the store by smashing the glass door with his elbow and hand.

“We asked the suspect if he was going to sell the stolen guns taken in the burglary and the suspect told us “That was the plan,” they wrote.

While deputies were investigating the burglary and the alleged discovery of Airsoft guns in the suspect’s car, the suspect told deputies he had been in a fight earlier that evening.

“He admitted to shooting a male with an Airsoft gun at the conclusion of a fight,” deputies wrote in their report.

Deputies noted a cut on the suspect’s right hand but reported they were unsure if he suffered the injury in the fight or the burglary.

“Based on the fact a burglary occurred, the fact the suspect admitted to committing the burglary, the fact the suspect had stolen items in his vehicle from Airsoft Hobby World we arrested the suspect.”

Brandon Michael Spencer, of Canyon Country, was arrested for burglary and assault.
