A man was arrested on suspicion of possessing both heroin and a loaded handgun inside a vehicle parked on a residential street in Valencia, a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputy said Monday.

Deputies made the arrest around 10:30 a.m. Sunday after a neighbor called to report suspicious activity, Deputy Josh Dubin said.

Taken into custody was Allen Glenn Wheeler, who lives in Valencia less than a mile from where he was arrested at Las Positas near Alta Vista Avenue, Dubin said. His occupation is listed as engineer.

Wheeler was arrested about 1,000 feet west of Valencia High School, Dubin said.

“The man was there for a couple of hours behaving suspiciously,” he said. “A random citizen called us” regarding his activities.

The responding deputy spotted a blood-stained tissue on the vehicle’s console and detained the occupant on suspicion of drugs, Dubin said.

“Inside the car, the deputy found 14 syringes, a metal spoon, which are considered paraphernalia for drug use,” he said. “(The deputy) also found some heroin and a handgun under the passenger seat.”

The seized firearm was described as a fully loaded .45-caliber handgun.

Wheeler was booked on the felony charge 11370.1(a) of the state’s health and safety code, which deals with the simultaneous possession of both a controlled substance and a firearm.

“This all started with a pro-active citizen,” Dubin said. “This is an example of our great partnership between (the Sheriff’s Station) and the residents we serve.”

Wheeler was held on $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court Tuesday.
