Hart softball faced its toughest test of the Foothill League season Tuesday night at the William S. Hart PONY Complex, beating Saugus 4-1 behind senior pitcher Destiny Rodino’s 13 strikeouts and Devon Lindvall’s three RBIs.

Rodino scattered four hits over seven innings and held a shutout with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning until Centurion sophomore second baseman Emi Shimamoto sent a solo home run over the left-field fence for Saugus’ only run of the game.

The Indians got on the board early with RBI-singles from Lindvall and freshman left fielder Tracy Chandless in the top of the first inning.

Lindvall finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Chandless was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

It was a rocky frame for Saugus freshman starting pitcher Kimmie Lockhart, but she soon settled down to the tune of 12 strikeouts.

The young hurler got into a groove and retired the next six Indians in order, three by strikeout and three with routine ground balls, before surrendering a walk to Hart senior first baseman Heather Stiglich to lead off the fourth.

Lockhart kept the Indians at bay until the top of the seventh when Hart (15-2, 3-0) loaded the bases after senior catcher Jessica Shults was hit by a pitch.

Lindvall again stepped to the plate.

Again, she delivered.

The center fielder sent the ball into right field, plating senior shortstop Melissa Brown and senior second baseman Allison Lewis to make the score 4-1.

However, it was Rodino’s dominant performance in the circle that kept the Centurions (9-11, 2-1) from establishing anything on the base paths.

Fittingly enough, the final out of the game was a strikeout.

Saugus’ Jenna Kelly came up big defensively, making diving stops and finished 1-for-3 at the plate.

Third baseman Randi Josett and designated player Alexis Tellez also recorded singles for the Centurions.

With the win, Hart remains undefeated in league, setting the stage for a home contest with Valencia at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday loaded with league title implications.
