An accused burglar never got to take a bite after breaking into a Newhall dentist office and stealing frozen dinners, a sheriff's spokesman said.

Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's deputies arrested Jose Cardena, 31, Tuesday morning, after he allegedly tripped the alarm of a dentist office in the 24000 block of Main Street in Newhall, Lt. Tom Bryski said.

The temptation of an office refrigerator, visible from the street, reportedly lured Cardena into the office, Bryski said. The suspect reportedly smashed a window to enter the building. The jagged glass cut both of his arms on as he crawled through, Bryski said.

Deputies caught the suspect in the act of peeling the packaging off the frozen dinners, Bryski said. There is a microwave oven in the dentist's office, Bryski added.

Cardena was arrested for burglary. He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail and is due in Santa Clarita Superior Court on Thursday.
