LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Southern California immigration consultant and her employee were arrested Thursday on charges that they filed fake green card applications.

Federal authorities arrested  35-year-old Claudia Arreola and her employee, 35 year-old Leticia Gutierrez. Prosecutors say the women filed fraudulent applications for green cards on behalf of immigrants who entered the country illegally but later married U.S. citizens.

The green card forms contained bogus documents that said the applicant had lawfully came to the U.S.

The women were charged in six cases, but authorities allege the pair filed dozens of phony applications.

Both were scheduled to be arraigned Thursday. If convicted on all counts, they face up to 60 years in prison.
