A man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of domestic assault after he was pulled over by more than a dozen sheriff’s deputies for erratic driving.

Also stopped on Magic Mountain Parkway for alleged erratic driving was a woman with two children in the car. Sheriff’s investigators believe the two drivers were involved in a child custody dispute, sources said.

The suspect, whose identity was not disclosed late Tuesday afternoon, was being held in the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail on suspicion of domestic assault, a deputy assigned to the jail said.

Amid complaints by other drivers of two motorists driving dangerously on Magic Mountain Parkway just east of Interstate 5, deputies converged on the location around noon Tuesday and stopped both the man and the woman’s vehicle.

Traffic on the street was also halted for a short time.

Both a white Camaro and a white Honda Civic were stopped in the westbound lanes of Magic Mountain near Tourney Road, Deputy Josh Dubin said at the scene.

A woman with two boys were removed from the Honda but was not arrested. The driver of the Camaro was the man arrested for domestic assault.

Lt. Mark Hershey said the call initially came in as a possible kidnapping.

“Some guy called saying someone took his kids.” Hershey said. “We had several people phoning us to say they had seen two cars driving dangerously.”

Information gathered by deputies indicated the Camaro and the Honda driver knew each other and became involved in a “family disturbance” that culminated in the traffic stop.

The investigation was continuing.
