Regional queens and princesses were crowned on June 14 as the second night of the 35th annual Miss Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Pageant, “The Magic of the Crown,” came to a close.

Thirty-seven contestants ages 8 to adult competed in the Friday night preliminary pageant, as well as the Saturday night coronary pageant, for a chance at a title and a $250 to $5,000 scholarship.

The ceremony began with Andrea Vibe, the 2013 Ms. Santa Clarita Valley Princess, singing the national anthem.

The audience then watched as the girls performed an opening number, clad in polka-dot 1950s outfits, to the Elvis Presley hit “Blue Suede Shoes,” accompanied by Alexey Poblete on the drums.

The Miss SCV Scholarship Program stresses the importance of volunteer service, as well as connecting with different members of the community, according to officials.

Before the winners were announced, the program highlighted the 2013 royal court’s volunteers and commitment to their titles in a DVD, which focused on each member of the court and their achievements.

“Holding the title has made this one of the most amazing years of my life,” said Kelsie Leach, Miss SCV of 2013.
She then proceeded to wish “the best of luck to all future title holders.”

All contestants competed in poise, physical fitness, evening gown and a personal interview in order to become a finalist.

They were judged by: Monica Carbajal-Alatorre, a former Mrs. Santa Clarita Valley; Duane Harte; Jim Sacco; Jason Wild; and Shelley Winsor.

After difficulties in tallying the final ball gown competition points, the winners were announced, and the queens and princesses were crowned.
