Jordan Zavala, 14, takes part in the Neighborhood Clean-Up at the Newhall Community Center April 11. More than 160 local youth and adult volunteers participated in the program.

Members of the Newhall Community Center recently hosted a Neighborhood Clean-Up on Saturday, April 11 to kick off Santa Clarita's Pride Week, which continued through April 18. More than 160 local youth and adult volunteers worked together to beautify the neighborhood adjacent to the Community Center.

Volunteers collected trash, assisted in graffiti removal and more during the event, which was held in the neighborhood near the Newhall Community Center. City graffiti-removal staffers were on-hand to provide supplies and support, while community-center staffers supervised the volunteers.

"The Neighborhood Clean-Up was an exemplary start to Pride Week," Hope Horner, community services administrator, said. "The Community Center volunteers got together to clean up the community and take a sense of ownership about the neighborhood - which is exactly what Pride Week is all about."
