Concert to Showcase North Valencia Talent
Rio Norte Junior High will host a Showcase Concert on April 21 featuring the bands from Mountain View, North Park and Helmers elementary schools, Rio Norte Junior High and Valencia High School.

The concert is designed to promote the music programs in the North Valencia area.

"We feel this would be an excellent way for the parents as well as the students to see what the next step is in the music programs, and how they can get involved," explained Rio Norte band director Jeffrey Gilbert.

Each band will perform under the direction of its own director and then all groups will perform one piece together at the end of the concert.

Curtain time is 7 p.m. in the Rio Norte gym; admission is free.

Trail Crew Works at Hart Park
Hart District students enrolled in the district Regional Occupational Program's Basics in Forestry and Trail Construction course continued their training during Spring Break with a full day of trail maintenance at Wm.S. Hart Park in Newhall.

"Students enrolled in ROP Forestry are taught principles of environmental stewardship while volunteering service in the areas of resource management and conservation," said Kevin Sarkissian, lead instructor and crew boss. "Today's project really gives these kids a chance to give back locally by supporting a county park that their families use all the time."

The project gave participants the opportunity to learn erosion control and tread restoration techniques, general trail maintenance and power tool certification on more than 1,000 feet of trail connecting the park's bison overlook and picnic area.
