A team of volunteers from the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center has been making phone calls to local businesses and asking owners to become “Friends of the SCV Senior Center” in support of the center’s family-friendly fundraiser, Touch-A-Truck, which will be held June 14, at Central Park.

The Friends of the SCV Senior Center Touch-A-Truck campaign provides smaller companies and individuals the opportunity to support the event with donations of $25, $50, $100 or more.

“Friends” will receive a certificate from the SCV Senior Center thanking them for their support as well as Touch-A-Truck flyers to help promote the event.

“We appreciate the time our seniors have spent on the telephone contacting potential donors with our ‘Friends of the SCV Senior Center’ program,” said Robin Clough, volunteer and recreation coordinator for the center. “And we appreciate the businesses who say, ‘Yes I am willing to support the SCV Senior Center.’”

Touch-A-Truck, which will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on June 14, offers the opportunity for kids of all ages to get up close to emergency vehicles, construction rigs, movie vehicles, classic antique vehicles and more.

Children also will enjoy kid-friendly activities such as costumed characters, magic and more.

Food trucks will offer their wares and vendors will offer boutique items for sale.

Admission to Touch-A-Truck will be $5 per person, though fathers who accompany their children will be admitted free-of-charge in honor of Father’s Day weekend.

Proceeds benefit the Senior Center, which offers such programs as home-delivered meals, senior respite day care and care management to local seniors.
