The Canyon High boys tennis team will have yet another new coach starting in the 2015 season.

A year after Dennis Yong took over a winless Cowboys team from Annie Araujo, Richard Bristow will be stepping into the same situation next year.

Canyon finished winless for the third year in a row this season, and coaching turnover has been part of the reason why.

“Coach Yong was dedicated to the program but with the birth of his twin babies he felt he needed to step down and spend more time with his family,” said Canyon Assistant Principal Jason d’Autremont. “Richard has a really positive attitude and showed us that he’ll be there for the students to help them succeed academically and athletically. He is dedicated to helping bring our program along.”

Bristow will be taking over both the girls and boys teams next year after having previously coached junior varsity and varsity boys tennis at Washington High in Fremont from 2003 through 2005.

He will also be teaching at Canyon in the Special Education Department.

Most recently Bristow has been teaching at Placerita Junior High.

The Cowboys went 0-10 this season with their closest loss coming in their season finale against Saugus where they lost by just two games.

With each team winning nine sets, the Centurions were able to edge Canyon 80-78 on games and take the win.
