Parents and students were warned of a man annoying students near Hart High School today, a spokeswoman for the William S. Hart Union High School District said.

“A Child Annoyance Notification went out to all parents of Hart High School students at 2 p.m. today, from principal Dr. Collyn Nielsen,” said Gail Pinsker. “The message went out by voice and email.”

Nielsen’s message to parents read:

“We received word this afternoon that a female student was approached on the way home today by a white male with light curly/wavy hair in a gray older model car.  He unsuccessfully tried to lure her into his car.  Our student is home safe with her parents.

“This took place near Newhall Park on Dalbey Avenue. The Sheriff’s Department has been notified and is investigating. Please share this with your students and advise them to not travel alone to and from school, if possible, and to be aware of their surroundings.”

The girl involved is a 16-year-old 10th grader and this was reported to have occurred between 12:30 - 1 p.m. today.

“The safety of our students is our No. 1 priority,” Pinsker said.

Principals of other Hart District sites were notified, as was Newhall School District Superintendent Dr. Marc Winger.

Tomorrow is Hart District’s last day of school.
