A Sunday morning truck fire on Interstate 5 sparked a small brush fire, just north of Pyramid Lake, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

Shortly after 10:31 a.m. Sunday, Fire Department firefighters and paramedics responded to reports of a truck fire in the northbound lanes of the freeway, near Osito Canyon and Smokey Bear Road, said Department Supervisor Ed Pickett.

A truck was found fully-engulfed in flames at the side of the freeway, sparking a fire that burned a quarter acre of brush, he said.

“It was a small spot fire, a quarter acre of brush,” Pickett said.

No one was reported hurt or taken to the hospital, he said.

Calls received by the California Highway Patrol indicated that dark smoke was seen coming from the hills near the truck fire.

CHP officers shut down all northbound traffic shortly before 11 a.m. and reopened all lanes except the slow lane 15 minutes later, according to the CHP.
