Don Fleming displays his Los Angeles County Volunteer of the Year Award. Fleming was nominated for the award by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich's office.

Don Fleming, a local businessman and civic booster, was named a Volunteer of the Year honoree for the County of Los Angeles.

"I think it's important for everybody to volunteer or be on boards," Fleming, president of Valencia Acura, said Tuesday.

"I think it's just our duty. We're so blessed with so many great charities in this town and there's a lot of great people on those boards."

Fleming, of Stevenson Ranch, was nominated for the award by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich's office. He is a West Town Council member and a director and executive committee member of the Santa Clarita Valley Boys and Girls Club Foundation.

He also serves as president of the Westridge Homeowners Association, a director on the Child and Family Center board and president of the Santa Clarita Valley Auto Dealers Association.

Fleming is an advisory board member at The Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Foundation.

He supports its annual breast cancer month awareness activities, from the golf invitational and Soroptimist International fundraiser to Pink Ribbon month, according to information Antonovich's office provided.

"Serving as a volunteer has given me the opportunity to learn from county departments and to give back to my community," said Fleming.
