Mark Crawford who has served as assistant principal of Hart High School since 2003 has been named the new principal of Sierra Vista Junior High School.

He replaces Randy Parker, who is retiring at the end of this school year.

Crawford came to the Hart district in 1998 as a teacher and coach at Hart High School. He has been an ASB game manager, administrative designee and summer school administrator at Hart before accepting the assistant principal assignment that he has held for the last six years. He also served as Hart High's junior varsity baseball coach for a number of years.

He holds a bachelor's degree from San Diego State University with a major in telecommunications/radio/TV. He earned his master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Arizona State University and his administrative credential from the University of LaVerne in 2003. He also holds a teaching credential in social studies.

The son of a passionate teacher, Crawford followed his mother's example after leaving college.

"Once I began to teach, I realized that this is where I want to be," he recalled. As an administrator, he sees an opportunity to have even more of a positive impact on students.

"It will be my mission to enhance and nurture the educational, social and emotional lives of the students under my care," he concluded.

"Mark has had a wide variety of successful administrative experiences that have prepared him to be a site principal," commented Rochelle Neal, assistant superintendent of human resources. "He is an outstanding educator who is motivated, responsible and seeks out new challenges and professional growth. As a principal, Mark will successfully and efficiently nurture students, staff and parents."

Crawford's new position was confirmed by the Hart District Governing Board at its April 15 meeting and will take effect July 1.
