A Saturday night single-vehicle traffic collision on Interstate 5 near Calgrove Boulevard has claimed the life of a 33-year-old Dale James Starn of Sylmar.

About 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Starn was the sole occupant of a 2006 Toyota Tundra, travelling northbound on Interstate 5, just south of Calgrove Boulevard, in an unknown lane, at an unknown speed, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Michelle Esposito wrote in her report.

“For unknown reasons, Starn veered to the right and drove onto the right shoulder of the interstate striking the raised asphalt berm with the right side tires of the Tundra,” she wrote.

The truck “continued down the dirt/brush embankment and overturned, ejecting Starn from the vehicle causing fatal injuries,” she reported.

Esposito noted in her report that safety equipment was not used at the time of the crash.

An officer with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Department was called to the scene.
