A Santa Clarita woman is celebrating her 100th birthday.

Margaret McGreevy, a resident of Summerhill Villa in Newhall, rang in her centurion birthday Friday afternoon in a room packed with friends and family.

“My grandchildren are all here with me tonight,” McGreevy said. “It’s wonderful.”

For the mother of four, the birthday bash was a positive surprise and an unexpected way to mark 100 years of life.

“I didn’t think about having a party, it’s wonderful they did this for me,” she said.

For daughters Patricia Heaton and Mary Cayson, the centenarian is a real-life storybook as she often recalls stories that span the last eight or nine decades.

“It’s fantastic,” said Heaton. “I’m pleased that she was able to achieve that.”

The sisters recalled tales of trips their mother took to Montana with their grandparents.

“It’s so much fun to listen to her tell the stories from the turn of the century,” Heaton said.

McGreevy was an Los Angeles area-based registered nurse who, after retirement, volunteered until she was 90 years old, according to Kristelle Padilla, Summerhill Villa’s Director of Sales and Marketing.

“It is a joy to share life with Margaret every single day,” Padilla said in a statement. “We can’t wait to celebrate her 101st birthday next year.”

“I’m fortunate to have her for these years,” Heaton said. “She’s a real role model.”

Montana-born McGreevy said that after working for decades and living a good life, she’s happy.
