The Trinity Classical Academy softball team saw its season come to an end on Tuesday with its 19-13 loss to visiting Hawthorne Math and Science Academy at Trinity.

For the Knights (5-10), the loss marks their fourth-straight first-round exit from the postseason.

“I thought we played well,” said Knights head coach Craig Massetto. “We had some costly errors but overall I thought we played well. We fought back and played hard the whole game.”

The Aviators (5-13-1), who were the second-place finisher in the Costal League, jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning but Trinity was able to cut it to 4-2 in the bottom half of the inning before taking its only lead of the game in the second.

The Knights scored five runs to give themselves a 6-4 advantage before errors allowed Hawthorne to score six in the fourth and take the lead for good.

Lizzie MacAdam led the Knights offensively, going 4-for-5 from the plate with four doubles.

Mae Humphreville was also solid, going 3-for-5 with a double and two singles.

Senior captain and Heritage League co-MVP Jacey Massetto pitched three innings for the Knights, striking out two.

The Knights haven’t had any trouble scoring runs this season, it’s been keeping the opposing team off the scoreboard that has been the problem.

This is the Trinity’s sixth time scoring in double digits and still coming out with a loss this season.

But they had a lot to look forward to next year as Massetto is the only senior on the team.

“I think we’ll have a strong foundation next year,” said Craig Massetto. “It was a bit of a transitional season for us. We had to teach a lot this year but all the girls picked it up very fast. Overall, I think we improved incredibly this year.”
