Grieving family receives home makeover

Armed with rollers, brushes and paint, workers from Allbright 1-800-Painting worked to bring some color into the lives of a Canyon Country family Saturday as part of the company’s annual “Paint it Forward” charity event.

But Saturday’s work at the Espinoza family home was not just aesthetic. In many ways it was fulfilling a long-held desire of Alma Espinoza to repaint the family’s home,

Alma Espinoza recently lost her battle with cancer and because of that her husband, Manny Espinoza, said Saturday’s event had a strong meaning for him.

“It means a lot to me,” he said. “It would mean a lot to her, too, because this is something we’ve been wanting to do for years.”

Even after her diagnosis, Manny said Alma remained strong and positive as the two lived together in their Canyon Country home and raised their four children — Michael, 18, Erick, 16, Ezra, 11, and Maya, 7.

“She lived for her kids,” Manny Espinoza recalled. “Everyone that knew her knew that she lived for her kids.”

“This was something she really wanted to do,” he added, as workers began the task of painting the house. “And this is great that they’re doing this for us.”

With the help of volunteer workers, Sherwin-Williams, and Rebecca Rollins Interiors, which provided a consultation for the Espinoza family, Joshua Abramson, president of Allbright 1-800-Painting, said the total value of Saturday’s donated work is thousands of dollars.

The Espinoza family was the latest recipient in the annual “Paint it Forward” event, which is now in its ninth year, according to Abramson.

“I have always been a firm believer in giving back because people have given so much to me,” Abramson said Saturday. “It’s a very rewarding experience.”
