One of the neat things about living in Santa Clarita is that you don’t have to go far to take advantage of the arts. The Go Jazz big band will be performing "A Jazz Prelude to Summer."

Brainchild of well-known band director, local resident, and California Alliance for Jazz Hall of Fame member Bob Babko, this terrific group hosted through Golden Oak Adult School. It is composed of 20 talented musicians, including a vocalist.

Babko came to the Golden Oak principal a few years ago with this idea for an adult professional-level jazz band. For almost the past three years, that idea has taken shape and been entertaining crowds at the newest performing arts theater in the Hart District located at West Ranch High School.

Additionally, in the past two years the group has garnered some other gigs including Café Cordial on Ventura Blvd., and Typhoon Restaurant at Santa Monica Airport.

This dedicated group is comprised of studio musicians, local band directors, and just very talented individuals. Although labeled a jazz band, the genre they play covers groups and artists such as Stan Kenton, Doc Severinsen, Stevie Wonder, Blood Sweat and Tears, Chicago, and the Beatles, just to name a few.

So if you enjoy seeing and hearing outstanding players, doing the music you enjoy, a Go Jazz performance is where you want to be. You next opportunity is Friday, June 13, 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7:00 p.m.), at the West Ranch High School Performing Arts Theater located at 26255 W. Valencia Blvd. in Stevenson Ranch; far west end and right side of Valencia Blvd.

Tickets are available at reasonable prices ($10 – general; $5 – students and 60+) by calling 661-259-0033 ext. 444, or at the door.
