City launches 'Recovery Act' Web site

The city of Santa Clarita has launched a new Web site detailing what the city is doing in regards to funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (aka the ARRA).

The site, named "Santa Clarita and the 2009 Recovery Act," is designed to follow the city's aggressive pursuit of funding from the Act and will track projects being built directly as a result of the funding.

As projects go through the various stages of construction the site will post pictures and updates to keep community members in the loop.

Several projects and sources of funding are aready posted on the site's "matrix."

Santa Clarita City Briefs will cover the latest updates and interested community members can also sign-up for "e-notify" messages to stay informed.

At its meeting Tuesday night, the Santa Clarita City Council received a presentation outlining the steps that city staff are already taking so that the maximum amount of federal dollars reach the community.

The city manager, Ken Pulskamp, established an Interdepartmental Recovery Act Team comprised of representatives from every city department to identify and pursue every dollar for Santa Clarita.

On a daily basis, this 16-member team is responsbile for sifting through various sources of Recovery Act information, assessing the city's eligibility for specific opportunities and appying for funding.

City staff will also work in partnership with various public agencies, business groups and nonprofit organizations. Recently, a lettter was sent to various public- and private-sector entities expressing the city's desire for participation in a communinty-wide co-recovery effort.
