Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies acting on a tip have arrested the man they believe is the gun club burglar, recovering all the loot stolen from a Newhall gun club — except a bottle of water, a sheriff’s deputy said Tuesday.

Detectives with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested a 20-year-old Canyon Country man Monday on suspicion of the burglary, Deputy Josh Dubin said Tuesday.

Mario Salazar was charged with burglary and is scheduled to appear Thursday in San Fernando Superior Court.

“All the property has been recovered,” Dubin said, referring to about 3,000 stolen bullets loaded into a stolen rifle case.

“The only thing we didn’t get back is the bottle of water,” he said.

A man kicked in a door of the Oak Tree Gun Club in Newhall shortly before 7 p.m. April 26. The club was closed at the time.

Dubin said the burglar stole a rifle case and approximately $1,800 worth of ammunition.

On the gun club’s surveillance camera footage, the suspect is seen leaving the club with the rifle case, then going back inside and emerging a second time with a bottle of water.

On May 7, detectives released a video surveillance image depicting the suspect and immediately began receiving tips, Dubin said.

“Working through all the tips, detectives followed up on those tips and ultimately made an arrest yesterday,” Dubin said Tuesday.

Salazar remains in custody at the Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $20,000, according to documents maintained by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Inmate Information Center.
