A Santa Clarita Valley man convicted two years ago of pointing a laser at an aircraft has been sentenced to 10 days in county jail for failing to appear in court to update the judge on his community service.

Chad Michael Martinez, 25, of Valencia was convicted April 19, 2012, of pointing a laser at an aircraft, said Ricardo Santiago, spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

He was scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court March 18 to show proof he had completed community service, paid his fines and made restitution in the case.

When Martinez failed to appear, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest, Santiago said.

Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies arrested Martinez on the warrant on Saturday, Deputy Josh Dubin said Monday.

Martinez was sentenced Monday to 10 days in the Los Angeles County Jail, and the bench warrant was recalled, Santiago said.
