Kudos to city for sponsoring Wings for Life World Run

In response to John Annoreno’s letter to the editor “Wings for Life World Run disturbed the peace for 2 hours,” published May 6, I participated in the Wings for Life World Run and I found it to be an incredibly inspirational experience.

This unique event, taking place all over the world, donates 100 percent of the entry fee to spinal cord research. I had the opportunity to talk with a few folks there with some debilitating injuries that go far beyond my own fused ankle, which has caused me pain for many years.

They were so appreciative that attention and funds were being brought to their cause, which is not as high profile as other medical challenges like cancer and arthritis.

I am a walker and was being passed by people in wheelchairs and one amazing woman with spina bifida who was cranking it on her cane.

In contrast to Signal letter writer John Annoreno, whose “peace” was disturbed by the event, I and many other people believe that hosting things like this are what make Santa Clarita great.

It gives our city recognition and stimulates economic development. People like John, who “feel entitled” to an explanation as to why their “peace” was disturbed for more than two hours, should consider looking at the big picture.

To call for City Council members to be “forced to resign and be terminated from office” for approving this fundraising event is appalling and insensitive.

My hope and prayer is that John himself will not find the need to be a part of a support group that benefits spinal injury research at some point.

Life can change for any of us in an instant.

This was an incredibly well-run event and our city should be commended for hosting it.
