Directors for the Santa Clarita Valley Child & Family Center have accepted the retirement of the center’s CEO, Darrell Paulk, effective Sept. 1.

Paulk, who was hired to help lead the family service center in October 2008, said he was leaving due to health issues he has experienced during the past 18 months.

“We are very appreciative of the leadership he has provided during the last six years during both very good and economically challenging times,” the directors said in a statement issued Wednesday. “We will miss Darrell and his wife, Patty, who have become great members of our community.”

The board appointed Joan Aschoff, Psy.D., to assume the role of CEO upon Paulk’s retirement.

Aschoff was hired at the center Jan. 13 to fill the newly created position of executive vice president of programs.
The doctor of psychology’s career began in the field of community health, and she later moved into managed behavioral health and financial services.

She has served as vice president, lead medical director for Unum insurance company and vice president of clinical operations for the western region of United Behavior Health, formerly PacificCare, a company that manages behavioral health, employee assistance and disease management benefits in private and public sectors.

The notice of Paulk’s retirement came on the heels of the center’s largest fundraiser, Taste of the Town, held Sunday at the Mann Biomedical Park.
