A vehicle slammed through a Canyon Country restaurant Monday after the driver mistook the accelerator for the brake, authorities said.

The crash occurred at 11 a.m. in the Soledad Canyon Road strip mall where the Canyon Country post office is located.

The driver of a beige Chrysler 300 pulled into a parking space in the 18300 block of Soledad Canyon, but instead of braking, accelerated into Manzanillo Mexican Restaurant, investigators said.

“There were no injuries in the car, but the (restaurant) owner was behind the counter and got bumped,” said Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Deputy Richard Phares.

The owner was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital “for precautionary measures,” Phares said.
