Now that two upcoming vacancies have been filled in the high school leadership of the William S. Hart Union High School District, new principals must be hired in the junior high school ranks.

Rio Norte Junior High School Principal John Costanzo will take over at Valencia High School, and Sierra Vista Junior High School Principal Mark Crawford will move into the same position at West Ranch High School beginning July 1, Now district officials have to tab two people to take over at Rio Norte and Sierra Vista.

Costanzo and Crawford will take over for two longtime principals in the Hart district — Paul Priesz at Valencia and Bob Vincent at West Ranch.

Costanzo has served as the principal at Rio Norte since 2007 and Crawford has served as principal at Sierra Vista since 2009.

District spokeswoman Gail Pinsker said the junior high job openings will beposted with the expectation that staff recommendations for the positions will be brought to the Hart district board at the May 21 meeting.

Pinsker said additional assistant principal positions could open up later this year, as it is possible that candidates from the Hart district ranks are selected to fill the openings at Rio Norte and Sierra Vista.

The last time the Hart district filled a vacancy at a junior high school was in December when Pete Fries, the longtime principal at La Mesa Junior High School, announced his retirement. He was replaced by Michele Krantz, who at that time worked as the district’s director of professional development and special programs.
