The city of Santa Clarita will host the Earth Day Festival and 22nd annual Arbor Day Celebration on April 18 at Central Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is free to attend and will feature more than 80 vendors and a host of musical acts showcasing their talent for guests of all ages for Earth Day: Unplugged.

In addition to vendors and musical acts, the Earth Day Festival and 22nd annual Arbor Day Celebration will include a variety of interactive activities, entertainment and displays exhibited in six diverse zones: Energy, Eco, Water Conservation, Community, Children's and Green Car.

"The event takes a multifaceted approach to addressing environmental issues in an accessible way," said Jeff Barber, Arts and Events Supervisor. "Whether you're a die-hard environmentalist or just a resident looking to recycle more efficiently, the Earth Day Festival and 22nd annual Arbor Day Celebration will have something for everyone to learn from and enjoy."

In addition to national "green" businesses, the SCV Family of Water Suppliers, Home Depot, electric bike company EZ Green Bikes, environmental newsletter provider Smart 2 Be Green, and auto dealers like Power Honda Valencia, Frontier Toyota, Saturn of Santa Clarita and Valencia Nissan will feature displays for guests to browse at the event,.

An extensive talent lineup of local and professional musical acts will set the soundtrack for the day. Festival attendees can listen to folk music, acoustic rock, classic rock and pop-rock performers, plus more.

Timmy Curran -- singer/songwriter, professional surfer and spokesperson the Surfrider Foundation, which works to preserve the world's oceans, waves and beaches -- will headline the musical lineup.

The six interactive zones featured at the event are set to engage guests of all ages.

Attendees can learn how to lower utilities while protecting the environment in the Energy Zone, test their carbon footprint and impact on the Earth in the Eco Zone, learn water-saving tips from local water companies in the Water Conservation Zone, presented by the SCV Family of Water Suppliers, and participate in hands-on activities and receive giveaways in the Community Zone.

Kids will be entertained at the Children's Zone, presented by Whole Foods Market, where they can make art out of recycled materials, participate in other interactive activities and learn about environmental issues in a fun way.

The Green Car Zone, will showcase energy and fuel efficient vehicles that help community members lessen their impact on the earth- as well as the money they spend at the pump.

Residents attending the event are encouraged to arrive at Central Park car-free.

Thanks to MV Transportation, local city buses will provide rides free of charge all day long to anywhere in Santa Clarita to celebrate the event. City shuttles, departing from the Westfield Valencia Town Center and the city's Sports Complex, will drop passengers off at Central Park for free, as well.

Residents can also ride their bikes to the shuttle stops and catch a CNG clean natural gas bus to the Park.

Residents who take city buses and shuttles to the Earth Day Festival and Arbor Day Celebration will receive a free eco-friendly shopping bag, compliments of Whole Foods Market.
