An Open Letter To My Father

Mother’s Day is May 11 and we have some great stories being readied for publication that readers sent us.

One story is a delightfully written tribute to a son’s mother, in which, he describes how she dealt with any hostility thrown her way with humor and a swift turn of the cheek.

But, in preparation for Father’s Day in June, we’re now looking for readers’ stories about their fathers; or the men that served as father figures.

In honor of Father’s Day, we’d love to hear from readers like you as to how you feel about your own father. What did your dad mean to you, teach you, or how did he influence you? And send photos of your dad along with your story.

In my own case, I never particularly thought my dad was a strong father figure – perhaps because he lacked parental role modeling after his mother died when he was only 5 years old and his own father often left in search of work during the Great Depression.

But, I looked up to my dad with deep respect and admiration.

Without perhaps even intending to be, he was a great mentor and life coach. I lost my dad in 2005 and yet I often wish that we could still sit down and talk because I so appreciated his outlook on life.

I miss you Dad.
