A signature-gatherer outside a local Walmart, arrested for battery after allegedly punching someone in the hand last weekend, has been identified as a woman from Illinois, according to an official with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Lt. Brenda Cambra of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said the person arrested was Kimberly Shanklin, of Belleview, Ill.

Shanklin was arrested for battery after an altercation with another person Saturday around 10:10 a.m., Cambra said.

“It appears that Shanklin was at the store to gather signatures for ballot measures,” Cambra wrote in an email. “The alleged victim was against the ballot measure.”

Cambra said the victim accused Shanklin of “punching her in the hand.”

Shanklin was released on a citation with a court date of June 19, Cambra said.
