What it takes for final equality

In her letter Sunday in The Signal (“Pay inequality is not a myth of the liberal left”) attempting to rebut Steve Lunetta’s earlier column about pay inequality for women, Robin Clough ends by writing:

“Equal work deserves equal pay, and injustice is an issue that should matter to all Americans. As Kurt Vonnegut said:

‘The year was 2081, and everyone was finally equal.’”

Interesting that she would choose that particular quote from “Harrison Bergeron” by Vonnegut.

The entire theme of that short story is that in order to achieve that “equality,” government has to become dictatorial, intruding into every aspect of peoples’ lives and mandating that each person be “handicapped” in some way.

In essence, by using that quote, she ends up reinforcing the very Lunetta column she set out to rebut.

This is pretty typical of lefties. They grab a quote completely out of context, not even understanding what it means, and end up rebutting themselves.

Either that, or it reveals their true big government ideology.
